Han Solo to old friend and mentor Roa: “I remember that first Kessel Run like it was yesterday.”

Roa’s smile became enigmatic. “Speaking of Kessel, I’ve been meaning to ask you something. Now, granted, stories can change quite a bit in traveling from Tatooine to Bonadan. But the way I heard it, you claimed to have made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.”

Han said nothing in a blank-faced definite way.

“Well?” Roa pressed.

“Ancient history, Roa. And that was always my worst subject.”

“Think hard. I’ll grade you on a curve.”

Han showed the palms of his hands. “Look, Jabba was breathing down my neck for dumping a load of spice. Chewie and I needed the work, and sometimes you do or say whatever you have to.”

“But it’s true—you actually made it under twelve?”

Han brought his fingertips to his chest. “Would I make up something like that? When I brag, I mean every word of it.”

Star Wars Facts Digest from 2-5-12

I’ve been a little behind on this digest, so without further delay I present the Star Wars Facts from February of 2012!

“The year 20,000 BBY marked the end of the Expansionist Era and the beginning of the Great Manifest Period in the Republic.”

This refers to a broad period in the fictional developmental history of the Star Wars galaxy. After the hyperdrive became mass-produced, explorers needed to forge safe routes between the stars, as implied by Han Solo in A New Hope when describing the intricacies of hyperspace maps and course plotting. Apparently the need for expanding safe routes dropped off sharply in 20,000 BBY.

“The Second Galactic Civil War was a conflict between the Confederation and the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.”

The Second Galactic Civil War was the main conflict described in the Legacy Of The Force novel series, taking place after the New Jedi Order. The First Galactic Civil War was the conflict described starting with the film Star Wars A New Hope.

“The Coruscant Weather Control Network was responsible for various weather conditions on Coruscant.”

The concept of weather control stations in the Star Wars galaxy was first touched upon in Brian Daley’s 1979 novel Han Solo’s Revenge. Weather control systems were a routinely used technology for public safety, maintenance, and agricultural purposes on many planets.

“The Columi were one of the oldest sentient species in the galaxy.

“Ima-Gun Di was a male Kajain’sa’Nikto Jedi Master who served during the Clone Wars.

“Ima-Gun Di gave his life on Ryloth holding off pressing droids while the Republic broke through to deliver supplies.

“The Je’daii Order were an order of Force-sensitives based on the Deep Core planet Tython, founded circa 36,453 BBY.

“Hego Damask was better known as Darth Plagueis the Wise.

I had a lot of fun writing about this batch of facts. Stay tuned for the next collection of Star Wars Facts. Until then, see ya later!

Boba Fett was very fond of books, especially those about starfighters.

Mandalorian armor has special properties including being impervious to lightsabers.

But Mace Windu targeted the largest exposed area on his armor, the neck area just beneath the helmet.

Tenel Ka Djo was a Hapan Jedi Knight and the daughter of Prince Isolder and the Dathomiri witch Teneniel Djo.

Tenel Ka was a main character in the Young Jedi Knights and Junior Jedi Knights novels and returned in The New Jedi Order during events set in the Hapes Consortium.

The Conclave on Exis Station was held by the members of the Jedi Order in 3,986 BBY on Exis Station.

That was all for these two weeks. Look for more recent facts in the next Star Wars Facts Digest.

Star Wars Facts Digest from 1/6/2012

There was a Star Destroyer named for Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The first Nebula-class Star Destroyer was named after the Jedi Master in 16 ABY according to a few encyclopedic sources.

Mythosaurs were a species of animal native to the Outer Rim world of Mandalore.

The mythosaur became extinct after the Mandalorians settled the planet.

The Gloom Walkers was a unit in the Sith army during the New Sith Wars in the years leading up to the 7th Battle of Ruusan.

In 1,002 BBY, the Gloom Walkers fought in the Battle of Phaseera, where Bane staged a mutiny.

As a Padawan Mace Windu travelled to Hurikane, the home world of a stone-crusted group of sapients.

On Hurikane, Windu was at first pursued by the natives but held them back using the Force.

Windu sobered when he unintentionally broke one of the stone sapients. Painstakingly, Windu reassembled the native.

As a reward for his kindness Windu was given violet hurrikane crystals which he used in construction of his lightsaber.

The lightsaber was also constructed from electrum, a cosmetic metal usually only given to high ranking Jedi.

In honor of Windu, the hurrikane crystals were called Windu’s guile.

The Consular-class spaceship was a Corellian EC designed ship used by the Republic to carry Jedi and diplomats.

The Arcturum Galactinum was a work composed by the historian Vicendi in 10,000 BBY.

The Twenty Wonders of the Galaxy was a list of wonders constructed by sentient beings from across the galaxy.

The Frog-dogs and the Rotworms were two teams known for playing Huttball.

The oldest known type of blaster was used by an ancient droid of an unknown model employed by the Rakatan Infinite Empire.

Corran Horn a dual phase lightsaber, normally green but had a silver tint to it when lengthened past normal length.

This is the truth by all accounts I’ve looked into save one: I’m reading The New Jedi Order and in Michael A. Stackpole’s Dark Tide duology Horn’s lightsaber is clearly described as normally silver and violet when extended. I don’t know where this discrepancy comes from, so if anyone would like to shed some light on this saber question, send a message to starwarsfacts or ericxdu.

Star Wars Facts Digest from 12/23 2011

Cortosis ore was a very rare material whose conductive properties caused lightsabers to temporarily short out upon contact.

This material first appeared in the fifth Thrawn book, Vision of the Future. A certain form of Cortosis ore was able to be laced into materials to make them resistant to a lightsaber’s blade, effectively making it possible to use a physical weapon against a lightsaber in Knights of the Old Republic and other games. Obi-Wan Kenobi fought against droids in Revenge of the Sith which had electo-staves made of phrik metal, another material resistant to lightsaber blades.

Other facts from the last two weeks:

The wroshyr trees of Kashyyyk were believed to have been one giant interconnected organism.

Edean was another name for the Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk.

Lightning spires power Kaas City by getting struck by lightning.

Sobrik was the original capital of the planet Balmorra.

Imperial engineers almost obliterated Sobrik during their invasion of Balmorra.

Mandalore the Preserver was a Mandalorian of Clan Ordo who fought in the Mandalorian Wars from 3,976 BBY to 3,960 BBY.

Star Wars Facts Digest from 12/10 2011

There were seven forms of lightsaber combat.

These combat forms were learned by Jedi more or less in succession, from the most basic form to those needed for specific purposes. Here are some web pages with more info: Komali’s Jedi Order, Lightsaberguide.com, and the Star Wars Wiki.

The Telosian Restoration Project was an attempt to restore the ecosystem of Telos IV after the Jedi Civil War.

Bendu Fry was a portly Devaronian criminal wanted dead or alive by Black Sun.

On that note, there were some facts about two of the less reputable —but sometimes very useful— professions in the galaxy:

Hunt saboteur was a profession that disrupted the work of bounty hunters often ferrying the target to safety, for a fee.

Slicers were, oft self-taught, computer experts capable of extracting information with great skill.

The Dornean Navy consisted of just 80 small capital ships but succesfully fended off the Empire’s advance.

These events took place within The Black Fleet Crisis novel trilogy, set in 16 ABY. A background ship seen on screen in Return of the Jedi during the Battle of Endor is said to be a gunship from the Dornean Navy, cruising next to a much larger Corellian corvette and buzzed by the Millenium Falcon.

The Fatman was a starship owned and piloted by Zeerid Korr.

The Sith Meditation Sphere was an ancient warship used by the Sith Empire for battle meditation.

Andur Sunrider was the husband of Nomi Sunrider. He was killed after being captured by Bogga the Hutt.

The Freedon Nadd Uprising began on Onderon when the Jedi tried to cleanse the planet of the Dark Side.

These facts come from the Tales of the Jedi comic book series and material set around Knights of the Old Republic.
